WELCOME TO CONCURRENTS
AND, SO IT BEGINS….
It started years ago, for me. That me is D. James Goodwin - founder of Concurrents. And those years ago, I made a decision that I would one day start a small label, dedicated to releasing music that was recorded beautifully, to an audience who actually cared about the art, and not the commerce. I wanted to do this with a family of artists making exceptionally interesting music, who also cared about the art, and not the commerce. This was the seed of what is now called Concurrents.
I have always been a consummate fan of improvised and experimental music, in all forms. Jazz, classical, rock, bluegrass - all of it excites me. The moment of creation is one of the most magical occurrences in all art, and most particularly in a room full of musicians, working at the margins of their form, in places where few venture.
Being a producer, engineer and artist myself, my goal was always to create a self sustaining art house of sorts, where audiophiles and cinephiles alike could scratch their proverbial itches for new and exciting music, while knowing that their financial support was going directly to those integral in its creation, rather than a cadre of lawyers, marketing executives and accountants.
Thus, Concurrents was born.
Of course, as with any fledgling venture, our existence is a precarious and delicate one. It relies fully on the desire of the audience to support this music, these films, and this work. If you’re reading this, that likely means you, and you directly.
I have begun this venture as one human, funding projects myself, and with the help of my partner Monik. I hope to create a self sustaining and entirely independent project here, that grows in small and manageable ways, while never wavering from our core principles of thoughtful art and equitable revenue for our artists.
Our plan is to eventually move into releasing these projects physically, in the form of limited edition audiophile vinyl LPs, as well as their high resolution digital counterparts. This will take time, but with your support, anything is possible.
Thank you for finding your way here, and for hopefully becoming a part of the Concurrents family. We do hope you stay along for the ride.
