Who / WHAT / HOW

CONCURRENTS is an endeavor to bring interesting, innovative, and new music into the world, and do so in a way that is fair to the artists, and engaging for the audience.

Founded in 2020 by producer and engineer D. James Goodwin, the idea sprang forth from a lifelong love of improvised and experimental music, in all its forms. The idea was simple really : build an ‘Audiophile Art House’ of sorts. A way of seeing and hearing new music that prioritizes aesthetics over commerce, quality over quantity (and all the other accompanying tropes).

In a nutshell, what we do is record and film innovative artists making interesting music, and release it affordably. We endeavor to take each step with the utmost thoughtfulness and care, not satisfied to simply fill the world with more of what has already been made. We take what we do very seriously, and it matters to us that you experience this in the purest and most direct way possible.

Our recordings are made with the highest quality vintage and modern technology, chosen to exploit the most resolving fidelity possible, to appeal to audiophiles and non audiophiles alike. Our films are made with the same care - so that the audience may be swept into the world of the performers, as if they were in the room with them. Immersion is a guiding principle of the work we do.

We work on a small amount of projects each year, allowing us to take our time, and present each project with care. Every project we do is released on a limited basis, available directly through our store via purchase, Bandcamp, and in some cases streaming in high-resolution via Qobuz and Tidal. We choose only to work with platforms that do not sacrifice quality and compensation to the artists.

Please take your time and explore some of what we have made, and by all means, become a supporter if you can. It is your support that makes this at all all possible. Every cent is split 50/50 with the artists involved, from record one, so that they directly benefit from the work they do. This enables both the artist and Concurrents to keep doing what we do best : create.
